REVIVAL TODAY TEAM
Thanks for the opportunity to share some of my thoughts with you for the Revival Today Show Titles. I have provided some context below to frame inform some of my thought process for the concept for the show titles. Once you have had time to review the following, feel free to reach out and we can further establish how to move forward. Thank you again for you time and consideration.
Show Intro Format
Options & Benefits
Intro Clip - A clip from the sermon or message that gives the audience a preview of the message content and/or style of the speaker.
Show Titles - This is usually a 10-30 second section that contains and establishes the brand and art direction for the program and speaker. These intros can be inspirational or simply an introduction to the brand or speaker. Typically these titles are driven by broll, motion graphics, photos or speaking clips.
Host Opens - On the majority of these shows an actor or host will further establish the series or specific sermon that is being shared for the majority of the show. These are usually filmmed in bulk once the series has been decided upon for programming.
What's Out there
I pulled a couple links together for what I am seeing out there. I am sure you guys did some hunting and researching but I thought Id just pull a couple variations so you could see some of the attributes at work and how they very and how effective they feel the can be.
Joel Osteen
Joel's intro is definitely the shortest and the most straight forward. There is very little that it is establishing. I am pretty sure this clip is a shorter intro that is based on horizons. But that video is 3 mins long. So more than anything it is just establishing Joel and Victoria.
Brian Houston
Brian's Intro takes on a pretty standard broadcast intro. Its definitely not in your face but I would say does the best job at establishing what he looks like, his demeanor, his association with Hillsong and his credibility with the fact that he speaks to large audiences. At the same time it is simple and approachable.
Steven Furtick
Steven's intro is more of a template. The intro changes with each sermon. One of the formats for the sermon style tv shows will often include a short clip from the sermon to help give people a taste of the sermon and help encourage them to watch the show. Ps. Steven is a pretty quotable & dynamic speaker. So they have opted to only use that clip as a show intro. I think it works well for them.
Joyce Meyers
Joyce's show is the only example I pulled that has a strong host presence. They offset this with the use of her sermon clip, since without it you wouldn't hear or see Joyce until she starts her sermon.
Show Titles Concept
I would propose that we move forward with a photo / motion graphics treatment that is driven with a couple motivating sound bites from Jonathan. So it would be a mixture of Brian and Steven's intros. I would definitely say that there should be as little see & say animation as possible as I can see that dating the show titles and making them have a shorter shelf life. The music will remain inspirational but it should be more current and less intense.
If you are interested in further pursuing this concept, I can offer some further concepts if you can just provide me with a couple of hi-res photos of Jonathan speaking, praying for others and even some more personable photos of him smiling and or talking with others.
Additionally, I would encourage cutting the host open. The host open rarely sits at the top of the program and is typically only in the intro to help establish the show theme or series. In the link you sent me, the host is only establishing something Jonathan could better establish in the show titles. I would also suggest creating a new close offer that could be a bit more concise and simplified.
